Lacuna’s Founding Director, Stella Ioannou, joined a fabulous line up of speakers at the Heritage of London Trust conference on ‘Public Art: Aesthetics in the Public Realm’ held at RIBA on Friday 15th November.
As Public Art Curator for Paddington Square and Artistic Director for Sculpture in the City, Stella considered the activation of public space through engaging and engaged public art programmes.
Stella’s session included contributions from Richard Upton, Founder, Are You? and Commissioner of Historic England; Kirsten Dunne, Senior Manager, Cultural Infrastructure & Public Realm at the Mayor of London’s Office; George Kekatos, Senior Cultural Strategist at Future City; and Lisa Anderson, Director of Black Cultural Archives; who all joined in a lively Q&A audience session to conclude. The day was brought to an end by keynote speaker, Thomas Heatherwick, Designer and founder of Heatherwick Studio, who spoke about ‘Humanising our cities’.
