London Sculpture Week 2024

21 to 29 September 2024

Returning for its third edition, London Sculpture Week 2024 celebrated the capital’s vibrant creative spirit by transforming public spaces with striking outdoor sculptures. Running from 21 to 29 September, the event united four major cultural initiatives – Frieze Sculpture, The Fourth Plinth, Sculpture in the City, and The Line – to invigorate the city’s public spaces and highlight the transformative power of public art in the city.

The week’s programme featured accessible public art tours, family-friendly workshops, and artist-led workshops, showcasing how art can inspire thought and enrich the city’s environment.

Freshers Takeover & Art on the Skyline: Cocktail & Create

Freshers Takeover saw MA student in Public Art and Performative Practices, Maurane Gadeau (Mrs Blues), lead 2 new tours on 28th and 29th September. They were inspired by meditative somatic methods and playful theatrical approaches, aspiring to draw the public towards unfolding introspective dialogues.

Art on the Skyline: Cocktail & Create welcomed attendees to join Sculpture in the City artist, Seph Li, for a free cocktail & digitally creative workshop at 14 Hills, 120 Fenchurch Street. Visitors explored the techniques behind the making of 'Everything Before, Everything After' and were given the opportunity experience a new interactive sculpture that generated their own unique looking sea creatures.

London Sculpture Week Symposium

A new addition for 2024 saw London Sculpture Week’s first Symposium at London Metropolitan University. 'New Approaches to Sculpture Outdoors', developed by The Line with CREATURE, was held on Wednesday 25th September featuring: The Fourth Plinth, Frieze Sculpture, Sculpture in the City and The Line

The free event saw an evening of discussion and exchange, considering the unique role that public art plays in cities like London. The symposium brought together four organisations united by a drive to make space for sculpture, facilitate spontaneous encounters, and make art accessible.

Through a panel discussion on public art, Sculpture in the City was represented by Artistic Director, Stella Ioannou, and 12th & 13th edition artist, Vanessa da Silva.

London Sculpture Week remains a testament to the value of public art in daily life, fostering connections between people and their surroundings, and deepening appreciation for art’s role in the public sphere, reflecting London’s rich cultural landscape.

Sculpture in the City 13th Edition's contribution to London Sculpture Week, is supported by Activation Partner, EC BID – the Business Improvement District for the Eastern City.
